Before we really start this article, we want to let you know that the article was inspired by one of our wonderful guests, Mr. Arie Spaans.
This kind of hummingbird is one of the smallest hummingbirds known with less than 3 grams of body weight and with very short wings. Can you picture how small he is? The bird has a rapid wing beat of 70-80 beats per second. The species is found only in South America. Little is known about the biology of the species, but what is known is that the bird needs a wide open area as its habitat. At the Kabalebo resort and surrounding area, we offer him just that. The Amethyst Woodstar juvenile hummingbird is a rare species; there are only 16 records of these birds being seen in Suriname. (Check this website for details).
So it is a real treat that as of February of this year, this magical creature can be spotted near the resort. With very few records of these birds we are honored to have them flying around our resort. We'll make sure to pay special attention to the bird in the coming months, since there are no records of observations for these months. And of course we'll keep our nature loving fans updated.

In the past few weeks, it was time to turn our maintenance fingers towards the River Cabins. All the Cabins have gotten a complete makeover.
You can now enjoy an even more cozy and relaxing environment indoors as well as outdoors, while enjoying nature at it's best at the river edge. You can expect to be awaken by the sound of the Howler Monkeys and chirps from the many species of birds that surrounds the Cabins.
With a little stroll in the nearby park, you can even see the Howler monkeys and many other species of monkeys as well as the many birds, including the Crimson topaz, Macaws and parakeets which are most commonly seen at this location.
